the faithfulness of God
“He will cover you with his feathers, and under his wings you will find refuge; his faithfulness will be your shield and rampart”. Can I be honest? Rarely do I feel safe or secure. Maybe you relate. God offers his faithfulness as our source of safety and security. He tells us that if we entrust ourselves to Him, He promises to take care of us. He promises to never let us go. He promises to be with us every step of the way. He promises to be our strength and our refuge. Interestingly, God does not say to play it safe. He has asked people to do all sorts of wild things. Walk on water, heal the sick, raise the dead, cast out demons, love our enemies, pray for those who persecute us, rejoice in tribulations… If you have read the old testament you know our God is dauntless. He expects his people to also be fearless. Well, I’m anything but fearless. I’m constantly afraid. Constantly worried. Constantly faithless. I lose faith several times a day. You know whats so wonderful for a faithless person like me. That God remains faithful even when I am not. “if we are faithless, he remains faithful, for he cannot disown himself.” As we are working on believing, God has already done what we are believing for. “I declare the end from the beginning, and from long ago what is not yet done, saying: my plan will take place, and I will do all my will.” Believe God. He can be trusted. However, even if you don’t believe, He will accomplish what He has spoken. That is the security we find as Christians, our God is faithful. period. There is no catch.
